Getaways that Really Let You Get Away

Thinking about taking a vacation this season? Looking for options that not only offer new vistas but might also change whole point-of-view?  One of the biggest trends in vacation planning this year is “quiet travel.”

From the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) to the Pinterest Travel Trend Report, a variety of recent publications indicate an increase in the number of American consumers looking for ways to unplug, unwind and discover new experiences that help you reconnect with the world around you and yourself.

Take Pinterest users for example. A desire for simpler, less stressful, more relaxing vacations has produced a 50% increase in searches for ‘quiet places’ over the past year – and a similar increase in searches for ‘calm places.’  As the social media giant puts it, members seem to be seeking what they refer to as “digital detox travel” that provides a departure from “constant connectivity and digital distractions.”

If that sounds like the kind of vacation you could use, we have some suggestions for you.

Low-Tech Locales

Don’t worry. No one is going to suggest you leave your phone at home. But many travelers are looking for opportunities to get away from the relentless beeps and bings of digital tech that dominates their daily existence. As a result, some resorts and retreat centers are now geared toward providing “tech-free” experiences where guests can reconnect with one another without distractions and focus on one another.

Low-Tech Locales

Remember the days when you’d hit the highway with nothing but a tank of gas and general destination in mind? Classic road trips are back – especially with Gen Z travelers. According to Pinterest, many current users are searching for what they call “crossroads quests” as an economical alternative that can also offer spontaneous adventure. And why not? Jumping in the car or on a plane with friends or family has always been a great way to share experiences, build relationships and create memories that last a lifetime.

Solo Travel

Looking for a chance to discover a little more about yourself while you discover your “happy place?” Traveling alone can provide a great sense of independence and self-reliance. It’s a big reason solo travel is another popular trend. There’s a kind of confidence and freedom that come from planning your own itinerary, moving at your own pace and following your own path. Whether you’re walking through a quiet forest or chilling in a local café, these personal excursions allow you to learn about your destination  – and yourself – in a way that can be life changing.

Eco-Travel Adventures

Ever since the pandemic, many of us have been looking for ways to get out while we can. So, it’s no surprise today’s travelers are jumping at the chance to explore national parks, seaside resorts and mountainside cabins. From biking and hiking to camping and “glamping,” these nature-based options provide a balanced blend of exhilaration and relaxation. Outdoor travel is a leading category of the new trend in eco-travel focused on environmentally conscious accommodations and activities that help you save both money and our planet.

Holistic Hideaways

Wellness vacations may be the biggest trend in travel for consumers of all ages. There are a variety of resorts created specifically to help alleviate the stress of daily life through relaxation and rejuvenation – from healthy dining options and full spa services to yoga, meditation and other holistic wellness activities. These health-oriented options not only offer you an opportunity to decompress and recharge but develop new lifestyle habits that provide lasting benefits.

Those are just a five of the biggest trends in the Quiet Travel category this year. Do some exploring on your own, and you’re bound to discover more. Who knows? Your first venture into the world of “transformative travel” could open up a whole new world of possibilities.

Of course, creating a more enjoyable travel experience starts before you even reach the airport. Allow plenty of time for packing comfortable clothes, make sure the car has plenty of gas – and don’t forget to reserve your space at Joe’s Airport Parking.
